The US residential solar and battery market is full of equipment of various power levels for varying homeowner needs. With energy prices continuing to rise and the US Department of Energy warning that blackouts could increase by 100x by 2030, having a large, scalable amount of energy storage is vital for many homeowners.
Sigenergy (formerly PointGuard) is setting the bar for what’s possible with scalable, stackable, all-in-one units. Their product combines form, function, and overall power into a unit that could make big waves in the US market.

A Global Leader Making Waves in the US Market

The US residential battery market has a ton of strong names in it, like Tesla, SolarEdge, EcoFlow, Fortress Power, EG4, and Enphase. While we may focus mostly on the US domestic market, these companies also do business around the world.
Sigenergy has a smaller presence in the US thus far, but their international presence is among the best in the industry. Sunwiz, a global solar and battery market data platform, ranks Sigenergy as the top energy storage supplier in Australia, Ireland, and South Africa.
Frost and Sullivan, a consulting firm, ranked Sigenergy number one worldwide for stackable, all-in-one distributed energy systems with over 28% global market share in 2024.
A Leader in the Stackable Market
Sigenergy’s SigenStor all-in-one unit combines an inverter, battery control system, DC EV charger, and multiple battery packs all in one nice, neat stack.
The individual units also have a simplified connection, with a singular port on each unit that connects all electrical and communication wiring when placed together.
If that sounds familiar, it should! SolarEdge recently launched its Nexis system, a redesign of its battery and inverter that utilizes the same stacking methodology.
Clearly, SolarEdge and others were inspired by the SigenStor battery’s clean aesthetic and ease of installation.
The Inverter
Starting at the top of the stack with the central piece of the all-in-one puzzle, let’s talk about the Sigen Energy Controller, the inverter. This unit both controls the battery output and works as the central input for all solar on the home.
The energy controller ships as one singular unit that can be configured in the field depending on the size of the solar array being installed. The inverter can handle up to 200% oversizing for DC PV in versus the AC output. While that gives a ton of flexibility, it’s important to note that if all that excess power has nowhere to go, it might be clipped.
The AC out versus PV in is capable of:
- 3.8 kW AC out, 7.68 kW DC in
- 4.8 kW AC out, 9.6 kW DC in
- 5.7 kW AC out, 11.52 kW DC in
- 7.6 kW AC out, 15.36 kW DC in
- 9.6 kW AC out, 19.2 kW DC in
- 11.5 kW AC out, 23 kW DC in
With 4 MPPTs (maximum power point trackers), meaning 4 separate strings, the associated solar installation can be quite large and complex, using multiple roof planes or angles if need be. The unit also has a maximum efficiency of 97.8%, putting it in the top tier of efficiencies.
From a power perspective, a single stack can output up to 48A continuous when configured to 11.5 kW. That’s enough to power most large loads in a home, but Sigenergy’s product’s scalability allows users to do much more.
The Battery
Of course, no battery system is complete without the battery itself. The SigenStor battery is an LFP (lithium iron phosphate, LiFePO4) chemistry, aligned with most other popular options in the market today. LFP is a popular battery chemistry due to lower costs and improved lifespan.
The battery module comes in two sizes, 6.02 kWh and 9.04 kWh. The stack can handle up to six battery packs, and those packs can actually be mixed and matched, so homeowners can use a combination of the two for a max system size of 54.24 kWh. The battery can be wall-mounted or floor-mounted, but an important thing to note is that when wall-mounted, you can only stack 2 batteries together. To get the full 6, the unit must be floor-mounted.
The battery has an operating range of -4℉ to 131℉ and a max operating altitude of 13,123 ft. The operating temperature falls in line with industry standards, but the altitude is higher than many others in the market, meaning it can be used just about anywhere in the US.
As with all my battery deep dives, there are two key specs I analyze to see what a product is capable of: power output and expandability.
Power Output
The SigenStor battery has a max discharge power of 3000W or 4600W for the 6 kWh or 9 kWh, respectively. That number does stack as more batteries are added to the stack, but the Energy Controller limits the total output at 11.5 kW max. 11.5 kW at 240V means an amperage output of 48A, enough to power most large loads in a home, but not continuously.
The battery stack is able to provide higher peak power for ten seconds up to 17.1 kW when it is configured as a 7.68 kW, 9.6 kW, or 11.5 kW. That peak level would exceed 70 A, which is enough power to start the largest loads in a house. Those loads then could likely still run on the battery because their operating power draw is much lower.
Expandability
At a maximum power per stack of 54 kWh, the SigenStor comes in as a solid option for homeowners, but isn’t breaking any records for capacity. However, where the unit outshines every other battery on the market is in its expandability.
As mentioned above, each stack can support up to six batteries. When connected to a home, the system also requires a load hub, which is a unit that manages energy during outages, directs energy to either the home or battery, and assists in monitoring.
A single load hub can connect up to 20 stacks in parallel, delivering an absolutely insane amount of energy to a home or business. This means that if a project utilized 6 battery packs per stack for a 54.25 kWh capacity, and put 20 of them together, that system would have a total maximum output of 230 kW continuous and 1,087.2 kWh.
Now the actual output is limited by the 200A connection of the load hub, but a scaled-up system easily contains enough power to run whole-home backup for an extremely long period of time. While the single stack power output isn’t anything crazy, the SigenStor is easily the most expandable battery on the market.
EV Charging Module
The last piece of the stack to talk about is the DC Charging Module. This is a very unique piece for Sigenergy. Most other brands work with EV chargers but as offboard units that are separate from the all-in-one setup. With Sigenergy, they directly built in an EV charger capable of DC fast charging up to 25 kW or 80A.
For context, regular level 2 EV chargers max out around a 30-40A charging rate. Where this feature comes in big is in their vehicle-to-home (V2H) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capacities. Vehicles capable of bi-directional charging could utilize the Sigenergy system to supply enormous amounts of power to a home in the case of an extended power outage.
Sigen Monitoring
No home energy system is complete without monitoring, and Sigenergy has a powerful tool for homeowners with the mySigen App. Like most other monitoring systems, the app allows users to do real-time monitoring of their solar and energy storage system and schedule charging and discharging to maximize self-consumption.
But there are a few extra features not included elsewhere. The app has interactive charts and graphs showing states of charge and battery power source compositions, as well as diagrams showing where the power being generated is actually going. That’s a huge win for homeowners who not only want to generate their own power, but also become more efficient.
The most interesting inclusion to the mySigen app is the AI integration. The app has an AI assistant that can help to maximize charging and discharging schedules, and a chat feature so homeowners can ask questions about production, error codes, or anything else and get immediate troubleshooting advice.

Warranty
Clearly, Sigenergy has a great product that can be extremely valuable to homeowners looking to take control of their energy. But just as important as the functionality of the equipment is the protection behind it.
The SigenStor Energy Controller and both battery capacities carry 10-year warranties, matching the industry standard for this type of equipment. As for degradation, Sigenergy carries a performance warranty stating that each battery pack will retain at least 70% of its usable capacity at the end of that warranty cycle, or when it hits the minimum throughput energy of 18.58 MWh for the 6 kWh battery pack or 27.86 MWh for the 9 kWh battery pack.
To do some quick math, if you had a 9 kWh battery pack (usable energy of 8.76 kWh) and you cycled it fully once per day, you’d use 3,197.4 kWh per year. At that rate, you’d hit the minimum throughput energy in 8.7 years.
