Is Solar Insure an insurance company?

No, Solar Insure is not an insurance company. Insurance protects you against unexpected financial losses like accidents, weather events, or property damage. Solar Insure provides long-term warranties that cover your solar system’s parts and labor if something fails. Learn more about Solar Insure

If I have homeowners' insurance, do I still need Solar Insure?

It is recommended to have both homeowner’s insurance and a Solar Insure warranty on your solar energy system. Homeowners' insurance primarily protects against external events like fires, storms, or theft, but it often excludes mechanical breakdowns or equipment failures. This is where the Solar Insure warranty complements your homeowners' policy. Solar Insure covers the critical components of your solar system, such as panels, inverters, and racking, providing protection against wear, defects, or system failure.

How does this differ from another quote we got saying there’s a lifetime warranty?

Lifetime warranties provided by individual installers or companies are often limited to specific parts, don’t include labor, may not be transferable, and are only as good as the company they’re tied to. Our SI-30 warranties cover panels, inverters, racking, and fleet monitoring, include labor, transfer to new homeowners at no cost, and manufacturer defaults are backed by an A+ rated insurance.

How does the Solar Insure warranty work with the manufacturer’s warranty?

Coverage encompasses both the time the manufacturer warranty is active and after the manufacturer warranty expiration. During the manufacturer warranty period, if there is an issue that would require the battery to be replaced, the manufacturer warranty covers the parts and SI-30 Battery warranty covers the labor cost. After the manufacturer warranty expires, SI-30 Battery warranty covers parts and labor. When a battery is replaced, the new unit comes with a fresh manufacturer's warranty that covers parts, and Solar Insure continues to cover labor.

How do I buy a Solar Insure warranty?

Our warranties are sold exclusively through our vetted certified providers. This warranty must be purchased at the time of install and enrolled in our database by your provider within 30 days for activation. It cannot be purchased or added retroactively. We offer a separate system protection warranty called SolarDetect for situations like these.

If I have Solar Insure coverage for my panels and want to add a battery, will the battery be covered under the same warranty?
  • If you already have a solar energy system installed on your home without any SI-30 warranty coverage and you are adding battery storage, the battery can be enrolled in SI-30 Battery warranty coverage.
  • If you have a solar energy system installed on your home with SI-30 warranty coverage and you are adding battery storage, the battery can be enrolled in SI-30 Battery warranty coverage, and effectively your system would be covered by both SI-30 Solar and SI-30 Battery.
  • If you do not have a solar energy system and you would like to install a solar energy system with battery storage, you would work with your Certified Provider to include SI-30 Total warranty coverage in your purchase agreement.
  • If you do not have a solar energy system and you are looking to solely install a battery storage system, you would work with your Certified Provider to include SI-30 Battery warranty coverage in your purchase.
Will the warranty cover removal and replacement of my solar array and wiring if I need to replace my roof?

No, removals and replacement of the solar panel array and components to perform a reroof is not covered by a Solar Insure warranty. Should your roof need to be repaired or replaced, contact your solar contractor to discuss options.

Does the Solar Insure warranty cover the roof damages?

The SI-30 Solar and SI-30 Total  includes coverage for resealing and reflashing within 3" surrounding the roof penetrations for your solar energy system. Other types of roof damage are not included under Solar Insure’s SI-30 Warranties. In those cases, we recommend reaching out directly to your solar installation company or your homeowner’s insurance provider.
